Balmain Terrace
For this existing terrace with a narrow and awkwardly cranked floor plan, we redesigned the kitchen and living areas, entry lobby and outdoor terrace. The owner’s were interested in a mid century aesthetic, without it feeling too retro, so we sourced a mix of new and vintage furniture and chose a colour scheme of predominantly white, with primary hues of blue, yellow, and red. The white Saarinen tulip chairs and George Nelson side table are original, so too the Roger Capron tiled coffee table, the pendant over the dining table is Ingo Maurer, and the leather Gilda arm chair is by Carlo Mollino. The kitchen is in oak veneer with custom brass and timber handles, with a built in leather banquette beneath the window to allow more circulation space past. In the entry lobby we replaced a 90’s glass wall with a timber screen, and made a custom cherry wood and grass cloth credenza. On the terrace we screened the adjoining neighbours with a tiled wall of green zellige tiles, and a small banquette in striped Sunbrella fabric with Loro Piana cushions.
