Petersham House
For a family of 6, we created a large eat in kitchen with full height tiled walls, to bounce light around, and for writing on. Keeping the existing footprint of the house, we made a few careful interventions, knocking through a wall to connect to the laundry and additional light beyond, and replacing windows and doors whilst retaining the existing openings. We also exposed the new steel structure that was required, preferring to contrast the raw steel against the glossy tiles. The sliding doors to the kitchen rest against the brick wall externally, and the North facing garden is shaded with a thin steel pergola and wire trellis for plants to grow along. The kitchen joinery is made of hardwood ply, cream laminate, stainless steel, and natural stone. An island bench was made to an Enzo Mari design, surrounded by an eclectic mix of designer stools. The existing studio structure to the garden was also kept, with new timber and glass doors added, re-imagined as a pair of kids bedrooms with new joinery, and a powder blue tiled bathroom.
