Point Piper Apartment
A top floor 3 bedroom apartment in an old 1930’s building “Chatsworth House” on Wolseley Rd Point Piper. Un-touched since the 60’s the apartment has been completely gutted, with all new floors, wall linings and ceilings. We repositioned the kitchen so that it could open to the dining room and harbour views, and added new and enlarged openings to increase sight lines through the apartment from one end to the other. We’ve also increased the ceiling height by utilising the un-used roof space, by stepping in and up with multiple ornate cornices, and raised all of the door openings to make the apartment feel better proportioned. All of the new finishes, mouldings, doors and joinery have been designed to look as though they may be the original fabric of the apartment. Sparsely furnished for our bachelor client, we contrasted the classical detailing of the apartment with modernist pieces, like the Pigreco chairs by Afra and Tobia Scarpa, an Antella table in gloss red lacquer by Kazuhide Takahama, and a large Elda chair by Joe Colombo. The rug in the living room is a vintage Aubusson, and the bedroom rug is early 19th century Chinese. Lighting is by Viabizzuno, Ralph Lauren and Fortuny, with a vintage Murano chandelier in the dining room.
