Barton House Canberra
Our long time client’s came to us with a brief to refresh and modernise the house that they’d just purchased, having relocating their family from Sydney to Canberra. The original part of the house was a heritage listed brick home from the 1920’s, with the rear addition from the 90’s being sub-par and disconnected from the front. We re-arranged the layout so that the kitchen could be enlarged and open to the dining and living areas, with an outlook to the north facing garden and large Oak tree. We also removed the low plasterboard ceilings to expose the trusses and painted them white. New furniture for the house was also selected and sourced, in the formal living area we used a new modular sofa from Jardan, with a vintage Ara coffee table by Emma Gismondi, and a custom credenza in gloss orange. The dining room was lighter and airier, with an old Spanish oak table and Basket chairs by Gian Franco Legler. The slip covered linen sofa is overlayed with cushions in a Josef Frank fabric, and in the newly created sunroom are canvas folding chairs from Italy and a marble topped Oficcina table from Magis.
