Hackett House, Canberra
A typical inter war brick home in the Canberra suburbs, this was a modest renovation of a kitchen and bathroom to make the home more comfortable for a growing family. Taking queues from the existing fabric and by repositioning some internal and external openings, it also allowed our clients to enjoy greater access to their outdoor areas without needing to extend the existing footprint. The bathroom benefited from good natural light from the clerestory glazing, so we chose white terrazzo and glossy mint green tiles. In the kitchen we added a skylight and exposed the new structural beam, with the joinery a combination of different laminate colours, and solid timber edging.
